In Murmansk measures devoted to the International Diabetes Day were arranged and held. In the conference hall of the Murmansk Diagnostic Center the scientific conference was held. "How to help the people to live with this disease?" – that was the question the specialists – endocrinologists discussed. The sick rate of this disease is high all over the world. According to the research it’s even higher in the northern regions. The same problem bothers our northern Scandinavian neighbors. Murmansk is one of a few regions in Russia where the goal-oriented program functions, that provides people who suffer from this disease with all the necessary medicines free of charge. About 170 people are on the books, and in spite of the fact that it is considered that only a few of them have inborn diabetes. People having this disease can live a normal life, go in for sport, study, work, but at the same time they must follow the recommendations of the endocrinologists. Then, as doctors say, diabetes becomes the way of life. The research of the Russian scientists in using stem cells in curing this disease give small hope to cure the young generation, but it will hardly happen soon.
