Since the 29th of November till the 1st of December within the framework of TASIS project "Development of tourism in the northwestern part of Russia", the marketing expert from Denmark Preben Kaspersen was in the Murmansk Region. His aim was to collect information about tourist resources and about tendencies in its development in the region to elaborate unified marketing strategy for the whole northwestern part of Russia, REGNUM reports. The Danish expert had the meetings in the Regional Physical Training, Sport and Tourist Committee, in the Tourist Information Center, in the association of tourist enterprises in the Murmansk Region "Barents-tourism" and eventually in the regional fund of small business support. Also, he organized meetings with the leading tour-operators and hotels in the region.
According to the experts, the Murmansk Region has great perspectives for tourism development, it is only necessary to develop and enlarge tourist infrastructure. Tourism has become one of the leading branches in economy, and it could have produced considerable profits. But for this purpose there is a need in investments and actively using of ecological capital.
In the Murmansk Region together with the pediatricians the join Russian-American project is being implemented, and it studies the following problem: "How do the children who spend all the time in children’s homes, feel?" Lorry Miller, a well-known pediatrician in the USA, works at Tafts hospital in Boston. It is the sixth time she comes to Murmansk with the American delegation, and since this year she has been working at realization of this project. She managed to get the special grant from the National Medical Center for the project. As Lora Miller noticed: "The goal of the project is to work out the ways of rendering assistance in children’s rehabilitation in the closed institutions, of their physical and psychological development, so that they wouldn’t face a lot of problems in future including those connected with mental development." Lory never comes empty-handed. This time it took two days to get to Murmansk. Together with Lory came her two colleagues. They brought 90 kilos of Christmas presents: blouses, scarves, mittens, knitted plaids. All these things were knitted by a group of American women. This group was organized by a US woman who adopted two children – one from Russia, another one – from Byelorussia. Each thing has a label with key words written – "with love". Lory came to the frosty weather, but she says that the warmth of her friends’ soles, the friends she found here, doesn’t let her freeze. These presents are for three children homes. Now the American women are in Apatity. "If we manage to achieve good results in project realization, we’d like to continue our work. But the competition between universities to get the grant is very high, that’s why it won’t be so easy. But we hope…"
