Murmansk Philharmonic Orchestra works with the new conductor. Now the orchestra is having rehearsals in the concert hall. They will have to perform one of the most difficult works of Dimitry Shestakovich. Young conductor Igor Masherov came to Murmansk some days ago. He hasn’t seen the city yet, as all time he spends for the rehearsals. Within the short period of time he is to build relations with the musicians and to play all notes. Profession of a conductor is one of the most nervous – frequent removals, meeting new people, the pressure of responsibility. The conductor from Saint-Petersburg, orchestra from Murmansk, soloist from Norway – these are three parts of this concert. The aim of Igor Masherov is to find the balance. Although he has always been learning to do it. Young conductor combines tour, conducting symphonic orchestra of Scientists’ Society in Saint-Petersburg and teaching. To get the invitation to Murmansk one must have incredible number of recommendations. According to conductor, the first contact is only on the first rehearsal, on the second rehearsal the work already starts. Murmansk orchestra will have to perform two pieces for string orchestra of Dimitry Shostakovich. The conductor considers this work to be one of the most difficult pieces. The composer wrote it at the age of 19. The music by Shostakovich will be performed in two towns on the 12th of February in Monchegorsk, and on the 13th in Murmansk. Musicians think that Shostakovich is difficult in performing but quite easy in perception

Three times in Norway took place festival "Barents-show". The festival is the place where the representatives of Art, Politics and Economy meet. "Spektakulert" – means spectacular and wonderful in Norwegian. That’s how the third festival "Barents – show" opened. There was minimum of official speech, but bright theatrical performance. The festival was full of smiles, fireworks, games and even Christmas grog – warm, fragrant, with nuts and raisins. It was a funny holiday, but at the same time a serious talk about the future of Russia and Norway. According to the advisor of Barents secretariat Thomas Nilsen: "It is a unique event, that combines business, politics, culture and the location of Kirkenes. It is so close to Russia, to the border with European Union, to the rich Barents Sea, that’s why everything, that is going on here is good." The present situation and the future of the vast territory were discussed here, on the meeting of politicians and businessmen. A lot of questions were discussed, for example the problem, how to increase commodity turnover between Russia and Norway, how to improve cooperation in the fishing and oil industries, ecological problems and the issues of joint military training. The participants felt sorry that there were no official representatives of the Murmansk region on the festival. As the consul-general of Russia in Kirkenes Yuri Nikiforov noticed: "Our cooperation will be held parallel in all fields, including culture. The indigenous peoples of the North will be also included into this process. One must think about future – this thesis dominated on the seminar "Oil and gas in the Barents Sea". Already today Norwegian specialists invite us to continue the dialogue. Each country thinks about its own interests, but our interests coincide in many branches of economy. But at the moment, unfortunately many business-projects remain projects. And the proposal made by the Norwegian side about allocation of the million crones to support economic projects of the cooperation with Russia might have become sensation. There were many meetings within the frameworks of the forum. Little Norwegian town included a lot of events, even the representative of sunny Turkey, the Mayor of town Kars, Mr. Naif Ahibey Ogly came to study the experience of the Barents – cooperation. "Barents -show 2005" has finished, but the Advisor of the Barents secretariat Thomas Nilsen says, that they are thinking over the projects "Barents-show 2006-2008". It will be annual event for all those, who live on the Kola Peninsula and in Finnmark. We are to explore the North together, and we will come to it.
Last year amateur and sport catching of salmon took place on 74 rivers of the Kola Peninsula. According to the specialists from "Murmanrybvod", there were given more that 33 permissions for personal catching. The fishermen managed to catch more than 7,5 thousand salmon and almost 1000 humpbacked salmon. Those who like big fish catch it on such rivers like Kola, Zapadnaya Liza, Ura, Titovka and Pecha.
