In Norway took place a big forum – "Oil and gas in the Barents Sea – basis for the development of Eastern Finnmark". "Don’t miss Russian market!"- This thesis could be heard in many speeches of Norwegian scientists, businessmen and politicians. As the advisor of the Barents secretariat said: "The participation in the development of oil business is very important for Norway, especially for its northern part. We must realize that we are close to the border and it is extremely difficult to separate our territories. The Norwegians more actively talk about their place in the oil mining in the Barents Sea. Special publications with bright headlines "Oil and gas fever" appear, although there is no fever yet, but the Norwegians are already well prepared. The Polar base in Hammerfest proves this fact. Everything was ready for the acceptance of oil and gas. This particular base will ensure the requirements on drilling of wells in the Barents Sea. It is very important not to lose control of new mining. The regional director of the Barents Secretariat (Archangelsk) Andrew Shalev noticed: "Oil business is international according to its definition. In all developed countries work international oil corporations. In Russia we shall chose the same way. We do not possess developed shelf technologies. But Norway possesses. Anyway, we shall have to ask for technological assistance. But the question is in what role Norwegian companies will act, as the main players or as the partners of the Russian sideEverybody talks today about the importance of oil and gas fields in our northern territories. Nobody gives precise dates, but the Norwegians quickly introduce their projects, island Melkoe illustrates it well. Gas mining will be started here in two years. The Norwegians are in a hurry, they want their technologies were required in other countries. That is why these problems are often raised and the new projects are widely discussed. The advisor of the Barents Secretariat noticed: "If we manage together to develop new deposits in the Barents Sea and other seas, it will be joint Russian-Norwegian project."
One of the biggest modern sailing ships "Sedov" celebrated its 84th birthday. The ship was built in Germany, its first owner gave the ship the name of his daughter – "Magdalena Vienen". The Soviet Union got the ship after the Second World War. It was called "Sedov" after the polar explorer and it was taken to the class of training vessels. In 1991 the ship was given to Murmansk State the Technical University, the future captains, navigators and mechanics have practice on board the ship. There are more than 4 thousand square meters of sails and almost 30 km of rigging. "Sedov" was registered in the Guinness Record Book as the biggest sailing ship in the world. At the moment the ship spends the winter in Germany and in April, as usual, it will sail to its training trip.
The visit of the Governor of the Murmansk region Yuri Evdokimov to Moscow came to its end. Yuri Evdokimov carried out working meetings with the heads of some federal authorities. In the program of this trip were included negotiations with both heads of the ministries and heads of departments. On the meeting with the Head of the Federal Fishing Agency Stanislav Ilyasov it was decided that the head of the provisions and agricultural departments of the Murmansk region Vjacheslav Zilanov will participate in the elaboration of the Coastal Fishing Law. Beside that, Stanislav Ilyasov will come to the Murmansk region in March. Also, in the course of his Governor’s trip to Moscow, Yuri Evdokimov had the meetings with the representatives of big oil companies that work in the Murmansk region. The question concerning the increase of the deposits of these companies into the consolidate budget of the Murmansk region was also solved. Serious problems in the sphere of education were solved as well. The Governor succeeded in including into the program of 2006 the end of the building of the college in settlement Lovozero, this is the only one educational establishment in the country, that educates specialists in reindeer breeding. The freshmen in the higher educational establishments will get the scholarships including all polar additions. Beside that, the building of the former hostel of the 35th factory was given to the College №6.
In the town Newry (Northern Ireland) opened the exhibition of paintings of the schoolchildren from art school in Kirovsk. In the municipal art gallery were presented the pictures, drawn by the children, aged 6-16 years old, in different styles. This event is the part of big international project "Show the world to the children". The project is to set cultural links between Russia and Ireland. The next stage of the project will be the trip of the group, consisting of youngsters from Apatiti and Kirovsk to some cities of this country. The trip is to take place in March.
